INTERNATIONAL AREA CODE CALL: Savannah’s phone suddenly vibrates at midnight — on the other end is NANCY’s voice crying “Save me…” before the line is abruptly cut off

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has been marked by a long chain of disturbing digital clues, but few have shaken investigators and the public as deeply as a phone call Savannah Guthrie says she received shortly after midnight.

According to Savannah’s account to police, her personal phone rang once from an unfamiliar international area code.

When she answered, she claims she heard what sounded unmistakably like her mother’s voice, strained and whispering, uttering just two words: “Save me.” The call disconnected immediately afterward.

Authorities have confirmed that a brief incoming call from an overseas routing did register on Savannah’s phone, though the origin country remains officially undisclosed.

Investigators have cautioned that voice recognition over poor connections can be unreliable and that no conclusion has been drawn about whether the caller was truly Nancy or someone attempting to imitate her.

Telecom specialists are currently working with law enforcement to trace the routing path, while police stress that, at this stage, the call is being treated as a potential lead rather than proof of life.

Within the reconstruction of events surrounding Nancy’s disappearance, the timing of the call has raised chilling questions.

Savannah reportedly received it during a period of extreme emotional exhaustion, after days of searches, media pressure, and unanswered questions. Investigators are

exploring whether the call could have been triggered deliberately to manipulate her emotions or whether it might have been the result of a misdial, spoofing technology, or even an auditory hallucination amplified by grief. Still, detectives have not dismissed the possibility that Nancy, if alive, could have briefly accessed a phone under duress.

The fact that the call ended abruptly has fueled speculation about interruption, surveillance, or a sudden loss of signal. For Savannah, the impact was immediate and devastating; she reportedly collapsed in tears and contacted police within minutes. While officials urge caution against assuming

the worst or the best, they acknowledge the call has shifted the emotional gravity of the case. Whether it represents a calculated psychological tactic, a cruel coincidence, or a fleeting cry for help remains unresolved — but it has intensified the urgency of the search and deepened the haunting uncertainty at the center of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
