In these tiny, altered fish, levocarnitine appeared to restore how they sensed and responded to their surroundings — the very processes many
autistic people struggle with. The drug likely works by supercharging sluggish brain regions that handle language, emotion, and social cues.
But the scientists are adamant: this is not a miracle cure, not yet. Only a small fraction of autistic people carry the specific mutations tested,
and nothing replaces rigorous human trials. Still, the data are now public, the groundwork is laid, and for millions watching autism diagnoses
